Studio ALTA was founded in 2008 as an open platform for contemporary dance, new theatre and artistic creation. The abandoned stock house first served as a rehearsal room beyond the traditional venues for dancers and theatre artists working freelance. Over time, the initiative of artists in residency led to opening the theatre. After another expansion in February 2015, Studio ALTA became a polyfunctional cultural centre and creative hub with an all-purpose utilization and a broad programme offer. At the moment, Studio ALTA operates in four halls in an industrial area in Holešovice.  Along with the professional artistic programme, there are also multidisciplinary, community, and educational activities taking place here.

Studio ALTA is run by ALT@RT, z.ú. Our mission is to support independent artistic work and the development of dance art in the Czech Republic as a catalyst for the common dialogue between artists and the local community. Our goal is to seek innovative artistic expressions interconnected with top-notch professional artists, art school graduates, NGO´s, and general public.

Studio ALTA emerged from local needs and particularities, but it operates in an international context. Since 2015, we have been a member of an international network of independent social and cultural centres Trans Europe Halles and we ceaselessly confront our work with foreign experience thanks to the numerous participation in international festivals and conferences.
